Pax Christi Chorale

Pax Christi is a talented and dedicated choir undertaking ambitious projects under the exceptional leadership of Stephanie Martin. In spite of somewhat limited rehearsal times available with the fine orchestra, they consistently produce remarkable concerts, and it is a real pleasure to be involved with a collaborative effort of this nature.

Welcome to Pax Christi Chorale's 24th Season!

Under the direction of Stephanie Martin, Pax Christi Chorale is one of Canada’s leading oratorio choirs, praised by our guest soloists, musicians and audience members alike for the choir’s sincere and passionate performances.  In 2009, we welcomed the Pax Christi Youth Choir to our “family of choirs”, led by Lynn Janes.  These exceptional young choristers have enriched our musical experience and that of our audience and we look forward to our second season together!

Stephanie Martin will be on leave during the 2010-2011 season, but will join us for "The Children's Messiah" on December 11, 2010 and again at our final concert of the season on April 17, 2011 when we launch our "Great Canadian Hymns" CD. In her absence, we will be joined by a stellar line-up of guest conductors. Lynn Janes and our rehearsal accompanist, Bruce Kirkpatrick Hill, will provide continuity, working with the Chamber Choir and full choir as needed. The Chamber Choir and the Youth Choir will also sing separately at each of the season concerts.

In our opening concert of the season, Stéphane Potvin will lead Pax Christi Chorale in a performance of the Fauré Requiem. The program will also include works by Samuel Sebastian Wesley in celebration of the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Pax Christi Chorale's friend and much-loved conductor Howard Dyck will join all choirs in December for two performances of parts I and VI of Bach's magnificent Christmas Oratorio and Bach's Cantata 140, "Wachet Auf". Christmas motets by Sirett, Willan, Sweelinck, Rutter and others will complete the program.

Our spring concert, "Prayer for Peace", will feature the Pax Christi Youth Choir, under the direction of Lynn Janes, in a performance of songs on the theme of peace. Pax Christi Chorale and the Pax Christi Chamber Choir will be joined by the Windermere String Quartet and Latvian conductor Ints Teterovskis in works by Handel, Bach and Rheinberger. The quartet will also be featured on their own. To conclude our season, we will launch our exciting new CD, "Great Canadian Hymns", featuring the finalists and winning compositions from our inaugural "Great Canadian Hymn Competition" in 2009.

We invite you to join us in the 2010-2011 concert season! For more information and to order tickets, contact Marion Cameron at (416) 491-8542 or by email at marion.cameron@paxchristichorale.org.
