Messiah for the City
The Cathedral Church of St. James, Toronto, ON
December 13, 2008
As guests of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Pax Christi Chorale was honoured to be part of this event sponsored by the United Way, providing an opportunity for United Way clients in our city to hear a fully professional performance of Messiah with orchestra, soloists and chorus. Jack Layton hosted the concert and attested to the unusually high quality of the music making and the sincerity of feeling communicated by Pax Christi’s choral singers. Over 1000 United Way clients, who received free tickets to hear the concert, were delighted by our all-Canadian guest soloists: Laura Albino, soprano; Heather Jewson, mezzo soprano; James Tuttle, tenor; and Andrew Tees, baritone. Pax Christi Chorale’s choral forces were augmented by singers from the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, bringing the total choir to 100 members. Pax Christi Chorale was so pleased to be part of such a wonderful event and felt it was such a meaningful way to give back to the city that supports our efforts.
In November 2008, Pax Christi Chorale President and co-founder Emily Burgetz was featured in Grebel Now, the alumni newsletter of Conrad Grebel University College.
