Stephanie Martin – Artistic Director

An award-winning conductor and composer, Artistic Director Stephanie Martin has wide musical interests ranging from Gregorian chant to gamelan; from Froberger to folksong. A guardian of musical heritage and a creative collaborator, she is known for imaginative programming and for creating sustainable musical communities.  Ms. Martin’s choral compositions are regularly performed by the Gallery Choir of the Church ofSaint Mary Magdalene, Pax Christi Chorale and by the six-voice women’s ensemble Schola Magdalena.

Recent awards for composition include first prize in the Exultate Chamber Singers’ composition competition (2009), and first prize in the Association of Anglican Musicians composer’s competition (2010). She was accepted as an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre in 2011 and is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Fine Arts,York University, Toronto.  Ms. Martin was recently named Composer in Residence for the Barrie Music Festival’s 2012-2013 season.

Lynn Janes – Conductor, Pax Christi Youth Choir

Lynn Janes is the Head of Music at Havergal College and is highly regarded as a Music Educator and Conductor for youth choirs in Ontario.  Early in her career, Ms. Janes demonstrated a gift for conducting and choral music and was co-recipient with Stephanie Martin of the prestigious Leslie Bell Conducting Prize. For over a decade, she was a conductor and vocal coach for the Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus and was the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Toronto Mendelssohn Youth Choir for four years. In 2009, Lynn began working with Pax Christi Chorale and this is the second season of the Pax Christi Youth Choir.

Ms. Janes has sung for twenty-three years with the Exultate Chamber Singers, one ofToronto’s premiere professional ensembles, and has appeared as soprano soloist on all four of the ensemble’s CDs. She has also performed as a chorister and soloist for several seasons in the Elora Festival.

Daniel Norman – Assistant Conductor

Originally from London Ontario, Daniel has been involved with choral music for his entire life. While his introduction to choral singing was as a young chorister, Daniel conducted his first choir at the age of 20 and since then has enjoyed conducting both orchestral and choral ensembles across varied musical genres.  Recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, he has been an active conductor and recitalist in and around Ontario.  Daniel holds an undergraduate degree in music composition from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters degree in organ performance from the University of Toronto.  Daniel was recently named an Associate of the Royal Canadian College of Organists.

Bruce Kirkpatrick Hill – Accompanist

A native of Victoria, BC, Bruce Kirkpatrick Hill completed his MA in musicology at the University of Victoria before moving to Toronto for doctoral studies at the University of Toronto. He left his job as Organist at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Victoria, and for seven years was Organist and Choirmaster at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Scarborough, and College Organist for St. Michael’s College on the U of T campus. From 1997 to 2008 he was Organist and Director of Music at Christ Church Deer Park in Toronto. He is Co-Director of the Anglican Chorale of Ottawa and is the accompanist for Pax Christi Chorale.  He is also a member of the award-winning Exultate Chamber Singers.
